baby food recipes, any idea?

July 25, 2010

my son is 6.5 months (28wks) and has been on solids since he was 14wks old, he has been fine on them and i done all my research before starting him on them early, i’d spoken to my doctor about it too who also suggested trying him, he was fine so i carried on (this is for anyone who wants to lecture me on starting early)

so i’ve been giving him organic baby food jars (which contain natural ingredients to preserve the food) he never really took to the proper food ones like bolognese, pastas, chicken dinners, cottage pies etc, he only liked the puddings and fruits which i didn’t blame him as the foods tasted horrible, now he’s on 2/3 jars of food a day and he still doesn’t enjoy the foods so i’m thinking about feeding him proper food like making my own stuff so it tastes better and he might enjoy it better.

What kind of foods can i make for him? I’m worried about salt and sugar levels in foods i eat, even although i eat healthily, some things do have alot of sugar/salt bad things for babies to digest basically. He is also on finger foods so anything i could give him in his hand would be great too (i know fruit and veg sticks, i’ve tried rusks and he loves them, i just want more variety for him)
Brittney he’s got 5 teeth.

Go to netmums.com they have great recipies, also read up on annabel karmel, i used her foods with both my boys, they are healthy and easy to cook, and you can freeze them.

Simple Recipes and Food Ideas?

July 5, 2010

I’m sick of asking my mother and others to cook for me. I’d like to be more independent and cook for myself. Are there any simple recipes? They can be any type of food, but Vegetarian and organic dishes are preffered. Thanks.

www.vegweb.com is my favorite website!

When I became vegetarian it was spaghetti for about a week. Then in discovered that I could sauté squash really easy and eat it with bow tie pasta. Then I discovered Morning Stars Chick’n Nuggets and Patties and ate those all the time. Now I make my own bread which is really easy. Not cooking meat and being worried about food safety really unleashed the chef in me! And when I need an little extra sustenance I peel an orange or slice up an apple. (I am not a big fan of salads). Just find a few staples like rice and pasta and then get creative!

how can i find recipes for organic foods?

June 28, 2010

i need recipes for seafood

Here are few of lobster, crabs, and oysters

http://www.aussieorganics.com/page.asp?parentid=55&parent2id=67

Ingredients

2 cups organic fish stock
250g boneless white fish fillets
250g scallops
2 rashers organic bacon
1 organic onion
3 cloves organic garlic
1 organic celery stalk
2 organic medium potatoes
2 organic tomatoes
2 cups organic cream
1 tablespoon cornflour
1 sprig organic parsley
1 tablespoon organic butter
1 organic French stick
salt and pepper to taste

Method

Prepare by skinning the fish and slicing into large pieces, washing and cleaning the scallops, chopping bacon finely, peeling and dicing the potatoes, and finely chopping the celery, garlic, tomato and onion. Heat fish stock in a large pan and add the fish. Allow to simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the fish is cooked. Add the scallops, cook for an additional minute then drain liquid into a separate container. Cool and dice seafood. Return liquid to pan. Heat butter in a frying pan, add bacon, garlic, onion and celery. Cook until diced onion becomes translucent. Add potato and tomato to the fish liquid and bring it to the boil. Cook until potato begins to soften. Add bacon, onion, garlic, celery to pan. Stir in cream and cornflour. Bring slowly to the boil, simmering for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Stir in parsley. Season to taste.

And there you have it. Serve with toasted French bread and a good quality glass of one of New Zealand’s fine organic Chardonnays. Enjoy!

how would i set up this scientific experiment about organic food?

June 26, 2010

My hypothesis is: Organic food is known to contain more nutrients, minerals, and vitamins than conventional farming crop.

Can you describe a general plan for designing this experiment?

A hypothesis is unknown (and to be proved). Organic food may not have more nutrients, mineral and vitamins and may have less. You must keep an open mind. Organic foods must meet certain criteria to be so labeled and you should check that out. I believe they use little or no artificial fertilizer or pesticides. Because the foods you wish to study are likely mostly hydrocarbons, you could weigh equal samples after squeezing out all the juice then burn the samples without adding contaminants then compare the ash (minerals). Also boil away equal amounts of juice before burning. You could also compare what goes into the soil at organic and inorganic farms and reason that the vegetables will take up whatever is available for growth. I don’t want to make it sound too easy (it likely is not).
